Fall is a beautiful time to visit Sudbury: the iconic maple trees are changing colour on the hiking trails; local farms and ranches are collecting their harvest, some of our popular festivals kick off, and the most notorious haunted houses are back in action!

Here are a few activities to enjoy while visiting Sudbury in the fall:

            1. Halloween at Dynamic Earth
From October 7th to 30th, Dynamic Earth hosts Halloween events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pumpkinferno is back again—this outdoor exhibit made of thousands of illuminated, decorative pumpkins will leave you in awe. Also at Dynamic Earth is one of the best haunted houses you’ve ever seen. The Tunnel of Terror is set deep underground where ghouls and monsters frighten visitors every step of the way.

      2. Terror Train 6077 at the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum
The scare factor is always high during Halloween at NORMHC, and even the bravest visitors will find themselves feeling frightful on the Terror Train 6077! This year sees the return of the Nightmare at the North Pole where you encounter maniacal elves, misfit toys, and other ghastly creatures. The tours begin at sundown (usually between 7:00-7:30 p.m.) and continue until 10:00 p.m. every Friday through Sunday from October 1st to 30th.

3. Fall Harvest at Wagon Wheel Ranch
Enjoy the bounty of nature at Wagon Wheel Ranch! This family run ranch has an event for every season, and in the fall they celebrate with the Fall Harvest. From the last week of September all through October, you can stop by the ranch and enjoy pumpkin picking, wagon rides, pony rides, and the Pumpkin Cannon. On the weekends, you can enjoy a tasty fall barbecue. It’s a great way to spend the day!

            4. Hiking the Trails
The colours are amazing in autumn, and you can immerse yourself in the feelings of fall on a hiking trip to Onaping High Falls, Laurentian Conservation Area, and many other trails. Not only is a hike a great way to experience the majestic beauty of our natural surroundings, but it also makes for a cute day, family day trip, or photo opportunity for all your social media needs.

5. Festivals
The fall is a busy time for festivals in Sudbury. One of the biggest events – Cinéfest – takes place from September 17th to 25th. You can catch all of the best new films and documentaries such as “Wizard Mode”, “The Eagle Huntress”, and “A Man Called Ove” to name just a few.

The New Music Fest is back in Sudbury on September 17th with a great lineup of musicians ready to put on a great show at this all ages event. Mother Mother and USS are two of the headliners with many more special guest and opening acts.

Localicious is a celebration of the fantastic independently owned and operated restaurants found in Sudbury and at this time of year it’s all about the fall harvest. From September 12th to October 8th, the participating restaurants have a prix fixe menu for lunch and dinner that blends each restaurant’s style with the delicious ingredients available at this time of year.
