Culture Days takes place September 25 – 27, 2015
Want a behind the scenes look at the Greater Sudbury arts scene? Every September, thousands of activities are organized during Culture Days across the country, inviting locals and visitors to participate and experience arts and culture in all its forms: performing and visual arts, literature, heritage, and crafts. Greater Sudbury artists will open their doors to share some of their creative and innovative activities, all free of charge.
Here’s an overview of what’s coming up in Greater Sudbury during Culture Days.
Open House at STC
Visit the Sudbury Theatre Centre for a Backstage Tour and a Fun Photo Booth with props and costumes from the largest walk-in closet in the City of Greater Sudbury! www.sudburytheatre.ca
Artists’ Loft on Larch
A new gallery featuring works by 11 local artists has opened just in time. Come celebrate art and meet the artists at Artists’ Loft on Larch.
Blueberry Pie Studio
Blueberry Pie Studio creates delicious hand-dyed yarns. Catherine Goykhman is the artist behind Blueberry Pie Studio. She will be displaying and selling her hand-dyed yarns. Come meet Catherine and learn more about how she creates her yarn. www.blueberrypiestudio.ca
Fringe Studio Tour
This is an annual gathering of artists who present unique and thought provoking work. Ron Langin will be presenting his images of what he thinks paradise might look in the "Paradiso" paintings. Another two works offer his ongoing creative interpretation of the iconic superstack.
Tour on the Fringe
Art, food, and fun. An eclectic mix of artists share their work and stories in Heather Topp’s historic Sudbury home. The Fringe Tour 2015 invites you to take a fall walk along the edge and join over twenty creatives at Studio 276 Cedar Street, downtown Sudbury. Pottery, paintings, jewellery, comic books, music, stained glass stories in the windows. Inspired, original works of Art.
"three, trois, tre" - New Encaustic Paintings by Ron Langin
"three, trois, tre" is an exhibition of thirteen new encaustic paintings by Ron Langin. The artist explores the domain of mineral, vegetable and animal in the "Primordial Soup" trio of paintings, covers theindustrial behemoth the “Superstack”, and explores manmade and natural symbols in the realms of earth, sea and air. www.theopenstudio.ca
Free and family friendly! The Cello Café brings classical music to everyday people, by everyday people. Cellists of all ages and levels share their music in a casual atmosphere. Don't just sit and listen though; listeners are encouraged to participate! www.alexandralee.ca
FIVE ARTISTS, FIVE VIEWS 2015
Five local artists present original works of art in a variety of media; the artists will be present for conversation about art, their own work and what inspires them to create in the manner they do. All from Northern Ontario, each of the artists includes local sights and history in their work from landscapes, to nature to wildlife.
10th Annual Linda Mullola Open Studio Event

Paula Walsh Pottery/ Art Studio Pottery Demonstration
Come out and visit an artist studio in action. Well known potter Paula Walsh will be doing wheel throwing demonstrations , showing the process of producing beautiful pottery , mugs, teapots, bowls etc Unique opportunity to see all the steps involved and viewing the finished product. www.paulawalshpottery.tripod.com
Artists in Action
Artists will be working on a project while you watch and be able to answer all your questions concerning their artwork. Every year the members set up a canvas as a “Work in Progress” for those visitors who get inspired and wish to try their hand at putting paint on canvas. Our children’s section has been a great success in the past years. We encourage creativity for all ages so we set up an area for the young artists to play and create a drawing or a bookmark to take home with them.
Culture Days is a unique opportunity to explore and enjoy sometimes hidden and always interesting places and spaces in Greater Sudbury.
